Winona Ryder professional Winona Ryder was born on Winona Minnesota. Her name was chosen by parents for the town where they were born. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother, were both authors and editors. Ryder's father comes from the Jewish family. Ryder considers herself Jewish. Ryder is the sister to Uria, and has half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. In the year Ryder was just seven years old, her family relocated into Mendocino County California. They had no electricity. Ryder was a voracious bookworm and spent most of her time reading books because she didn't have a TV. Ryder started taking classes in acting at the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 aged 13 years old. In the year she turned 15, Ryder was cast in Lucas, her first major film. Ryder was bullied in high school. Her acting career, she hoped, would help her. Unfortunately, that did not take place. However, she remained committed to her dream. Her breakthrough came with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in the year 1988. Ryder had a successful role in various films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated at the Academy Awards. One of was for her performance on the film The Age of Innocence.
