Heidi Klum was born in Bergisch Gladbach Germany on June 1st 1973. Her mother Erna was a hairdresser. Gunther Kum was the manager of a cosmetics business. Heidi's father was previously employed as a producer with 4711, which was a fragrance company. Heidi was raised in Bergisch Gladbach which is a town of 100,000 just six miles away from Cologne. Former German-American model, Heidi Klum is now an actor as well as a television host. Klum was first introduced to modeling in 1992 while working as a discotheque barmaid. Karin invited Klum at the time, an 18 year old student old to be a contestant on an German television talent show called Model 92. Model 92, a show supported by the German female magazine Petra was part of a late night talk show which was hosted by Thomas Gottschalk. Klum was up against over 25,000 competitors from Germany and Europe to become one of the three semifinalists. She won the $300,000 top modelling prize in April of the year 1992.
